We are keen to maintain a level of professionalism that provides our clients with a service that is honest and transparent. Details of these guarantees can be viewed this site and used for further reference.
We value your privacy! We will never give, lease, sell or otherwise disclose your personal information. Full Stop! Any information you give to Gilt Edge Alpacas will be held with the utmost care. Stud Service Agreement.
The following describes the terms and conditions that Gilt Edge Alpacas offers clients as part of entering into an agreement to use Gilt Edge Alpacas Stud Services:
Mating fee:
Forestglen Rameses $1000 + GST
Forestglen Salvador $ 1000 + GST
Flying Colours Momentum $ 1000 + GST
Forestglen Illustrious $1000 + GST
Gilt Edge Jasper $900 + gst until proven
Fee is payable at 60 days following the last mating. Pregnancy at this point will be confirmed by a spit-off test, progesterone test or ultrasound scan. The cost of a progesterone test or ultrasound scan at 60 days is the responsibility of the dam’s owner. For mobile mating, the service includes an initial mating at the Dam’s farm, a spit-off test at 14 days post-mating and again at 28 days. If the dam fails to become pregnant after three matings a veterinary examination of the dam is required.
Gilt Edge Alpacas strongly recommend that animals are fully insured while remaining at Gilt Edge Alpacas for mating. It is the responsibility of the owners to assume any risk if the animals are not insured.
If the client wishes to change to a different sire not owned by Gilt Edge Alpacas after the dam has been mated to one of our males, a period of 45 days must elapse before the dam can be re-mated to the new sire.
A fee of $400 will be charged if clients change to another male once mating services have begun as costs will have been incurred by us up to that point.
The Tb status of the female must be ‘clear’ prior to mating.
Cheques should be made payable to Gilt Edge Alpacas.
Gilt Edge Alpacas wholeheartedly support the Across-herd Genetic Evaluation project (A.G.E project) run by AANZ and AAA. In the event that clients do not wish to enter their own herd data into this scheme, Rapaki Alpacas will pay to have a mid-side sample analysed from the progeny of their sire and also will pay to enter the details onto the AGE database. Permission is therefore sought for a mid-side sample of fleece from all progeny of Rapaki Alpacas sires to be provided once the progeny reach 18 months of age.
Live Cria Guarantee
We are proud of the support we offer to our clients and this extends to the live guarantee. All of the stud services from Gilt Edge Alpacas are covered by a live cria guarantee. In the unlikely event of the female failing to carry the cria to full term, or that the cria fails to live more that 48 hours after birth, we offer a re-mating to the same sire. If that sire is not available due to obligations elsewhere, we will offer the use of any other male from our certified males.
We offer the live cria guarantee on the understanding that all due care has been taken of both the dam and the cria in it's first hours of life. Treating the umbilical cord with Iodine or chlorhexidine solution will minimise the chances of the cria contracting an infection through the umbilical cord. Protecting the dam and cria by administering a dose of 5-in-1 vaccine at 6 weeks prior to the due date offers additional protection. Insuring the cria has drunk sufficient colostrum within the first 4-6 hours of life is vital. If in any doubt, give artificial colostrum or goats or cows colostrum as a back-up.
If a re-mating is necessary it will be offered as an on-farm service with the owners of the dam being responsible for transport costs getting the female to our farm. Our mating terms and agreement allow for three visits to your farm during the initial mobile mating, for which Gilt Edge Alpacas will have incurred costs. To avoid costs continuing ad infinitum re-matings will be offered as on-farm services only. No refunds will be offered once mating has started, a re-mating may be transferred to a different female if there are difficulties getting one particular female pregnant. Costs will have been incurred by Gilt Edge Alpacas which is why refunds are not offered.
We recommend that all alpacas that come to live on farm here at Gilt Edge alpacas are covered by an insurance policy.
Agistment of alpacas with us - Points to consider:
The following information constitutes guidelines only for people considering agisting their alpacas with Gilt Edge Alpacas.
More and more alpaca owners are taking advantage of a facility whereby they can leave their animals in the care of others but still enjoy the pleasures of owning these fascinating animals. As with any arrangement between two parties, for most of the time verbal arrangements are fine when everything is going smoothly. Sometimes however there are unforeseen circumstances which can put pressure on one or other party and at that time, verbal agreements can sometimes break down and disputes arise.
We suggest that any party that enters into an agistment arrangement, thinks very hard about a number of factors. These factors should be discussed openly between yourselves and Gilt Edge Alpacas and a written agreement should be signed. This gives peace of mind to all parties.
Below is a list of things that should be considered (it is not exhaustive). Please think about all these issues so that we can put together a comprehensive agreement that will give both sides complete peace of mind.
The person undertaking to agist the animal (the agister) on their property should agree to provide a constant and appropriate supply of food and water.
If it is necessary to provide extra feed in dry times – who pays?
Who administers and who pays for inoculations?
Who administers and who pays for drenches?
Who administers and who pays for vitamins?
Discuss who carries out toenail trimming and other routine maintenance.
Who carries out shearing and who pays?
Who keeps the fleece?
Monthly charges, what are the costs and how frequently will it be paid.
Insurance
Medical emergencies. Discuss procedures for informing owners of an illness or injury.
Discuss choice of vet. Come to an arrangement regarding the point at which the agister decides to call a vet. The decision to proceed should be based on the best interests of the animal if owners cannot be contacted. Discuss veterinary costs.
Visiting arrangements. What are the arrangements when the owners wish to visit their animals on the agister’s property.
Tb testing – who pays?
Facial eczema, discuss precautions to be taken.
