We were especially proud of Gilt Edge Scimitar taking third in the all important Intermediate white male class behind the eventual supreme. His mother, Rapaki Syon won Reserve Champion adult female fleece and was 55 months old at time of shearing. Grid sampling from the National show highlighted her good uniformity with 19.8 mic, 19.9 mic, 17.6 mic and 19.8 mic giving an overall micron of 19.2. She scored 20/20 for fineness, 4.5/5 for lustre and 4/5 for handle and 8.5/10 for lack of guard hair she grows a luxurious fleece. We expect her great fleece attributers to be passed to her son Gilt Edge Scimitar. Scimitar has started working now and has settled two females before the age of 2 years old.
A half sister to Scimitar and daughter of Rapaki Syon, Gilt Edge Starlight Express won first in her class of 24-36 month old fleeces. Her grid score was 21.1 micron, 18/20 for fineness4/5 for handle and 4.5/5 for lustre. Excellent fleece traits in this family give us great pleasure.
Hillside Gardens Adobe ET won Champion Senior male huacaya fleece and first in the white class with his 42 month old fleece. Grid sampled at 20.5, 21.3 20. 22.6 his average micron was 21.1. Pleasing results for a working male of his age. Scoring 19/20 for fineness 9/10 for character and style, 4.5/5 for handle and 4.5/5 for lustre, these are the attributes we like most in our herd.
I must make special mention of Forestglen Delphinium who was a real high achiever. She won Champion Mature female with her 66 month old fleece and Reserve Champion Mature female with her 78 month old fleece. She was talked about by the fleece judges during the awards ceremony. Having fantastic fleece attributes at such mature ages are extremely important in your herd. She scored 4.5/5 for lustre in both fleeces, 4.5/5 for handle in both fleeces, 8 or 8.5/10 for uniformity of micron across the fleece, 8 or 8.5/10 for uniformity of length, 8.5 and 9/10 for character and style, 4/5 for density, 8/10 for lack of any contamination, 8/10 for lack of guard hair. She really is a wonderful fleece producer and we are proud to own her.
