AGE (Across Herd Genetic Evaluation) Top 50 table released
Gilt Edge Alpacas have been participating in the Across Herd Genetic Evaluation (AGE) project since it's inception and all our herd are entered into the database. Tables representing the top 50 males and top 50 females have now been released and they have been created to show three different features. Those alpacas producing fineness in their progeny, Forestglen Rameses was 49th out of 747 sires. Forestglen Rameses was also 39th for producing equal value of fineness and weight of fleece in his progeny, and Forestglen Rameses was 42nd for increasing fleece weight.
In the females, our Somerset Peruvian Ginger was 42nd out of 2136 dams producing fineness in her progeny. This fits exactly with what we are finding in the paddock. Ginger/April (who we call April as she is not Ginger!) has produced Rapaki Pearl (multiple broad ribbon winner in fleece competitions), Gilt Edge Saphire, 1st in junior white huacaya female 9-12 m at the National show 2009, Pearl has produced Shooting Star, still beautifully fine and a multiple broad ribbon winner in the fleece tent too .
AGE can provide you with sound breeding guides so why not join now?
